Michigan school superintendents have a compensation package worth an average of $171,311, based on information collected by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
That includes a base salary that averages about $120,000 plus insurance coverage, districts' mandatory payment to the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System, or MPSERS, and other benefits.
The numbers do not include districts' share of Social Security and Medicare taxes.
The Mackinac Center collected data for more than 500 public school superintendents, including the heads of intermediate school districts.
Below is a database of the Mackinac Center data. In a some instances where district information was missing or outdated, MLive added numbers drawn from the districts' websites.
The Mackinac Center offers this caveat: "Amounts reported here may not precisely match current superintendent earnings, but is based on the latest information the district has made available to the public. Additionally, many pension contributions have been estimated based on a standard MPSERS employer contribution rate."
Districts marked with an asterisk have an interim superintendent paid on a per-diam basis. In some smaller districts, such as White Pigeon, the superintendent also serves as school principal.
Blank spaces indicate the information was not available.
